About This Course

As technical experts, it is expected that we know well the different technologies available and how to apply them to different uses. In fact, most of the times we are asked to propose solutions to a challenge because we are thought to be able to provide technical solutions. This is our role.

Because of this, we propose three modules on Technology Evaluation as part of the Challenge lesson:

1. Searching for information.

Even if we know about the technology that can be applied technology change and is applied to different cases. The application to different circumstances and different cases can give place to different results. We will need to obtain information on the technologies that applies to the case we are considering.

2. Level of development and prospects

We need to recent information about new developments, even the developments that will be released in the future. We also need to know the prospects of the technologies we are considering.

3. Evaluation parameters

We will compare different possible ways to address the challenge, and, it is important to identify the elements of the decision to take into account. We call them evaluation parameters. The selection of evaluation parameters depends on the environment on which the technology will be applied, and the needs and interests of the people and organisations involved in the challenge. Based on the evaluation parameters, different technologies can be compared.

The Intended Learning Outcomes of the course are:

  • Identify the sources of information where information on a technology can be obtained and localize the information on the specific technology and application under analysis and select the most relevant information.
  • Identify the level of development of a technology and analyse the future prospects of a technology.
  • Identify the main factors to assess a technological solution; compare alternative solutions to a problem and identify the situation in which a technology is appropriated.
A total of 3 month and 6 hours of work per weerk are needed to complete the course
